Displaying Sea Temperature in OpenCPN

Hi.
Is there a means of graphically displaying recorded sea temperatures in OpenCPN, such as along the track line?

I have in mind the track line being colour coded Red for hot, blue for cold with shades in between, and then being able to hover the mouse to interrogate for the time, Lat/Lon and the actual temperature value recorded. This would be very useful when trying to catch or dodge currents such as the Eastern Australian Current (up to 3kts S bound from the tropics to about Eden, then E nearly to NZ). The S bound current is much hotter.
With the help of Thomas Knauf ( http://www.thomasknauf.de/seatalk.htm) I can decode NMEA and SeaTalk (™ Raymarine etc) and collect all the above data in real-time and to file – the tricky part (for me) is displaying it in a useful way on the chart.
I’ve attached a mock-up of what I have in mind – the display on the right of OpenCPN is a program I wrote to show and graph depth (useful in shallows) and sea temperature.

Cheers,
Andrew

Andrew...
I doubt this thing can ever make it to the core - too specialized. Good idea for a plugin though. Quite few of them can be used to get ideas and parts of code for such a thing if you speak C.
