Re: Development Debugging Environment - Setup Help

Must I really have
- Team Explorer for Visual Studio? -requires MS SQL Server 2014
- MS SQL Server 2014 and the other SQL 2014 programs?

These SQL program all occupy 650 mb !

which does not include
Compact 3.5 SP2 enu
Compact 3.5 SP2 x64 enu
Compact 4.0 enu
which are about 25 mb.

What's the harm in deleting all of this?

Re: Development Debugging Environment - Setup Help

Rick,
My windows install only has VS 2013. I do not have any of the other MS stuff and you really don't need it for OPCN. If you are developing other stuff then it depends, unless you are thinking of generating a windows only database for holding routes, tracks and of course drawings in a non-git collaborative environment.

Here are the programs on the machine now. I would like to delete the ones in red. Jon, am I deleting any programs that you have on your machine now? Thanks this is a big help!! It will probably save 800mb (Also which MS Visual Studio Redistributable do you have?):

Re: Development Debugging Environment - Setup Help

SQL 2014 Local db and an SQL 2014 Language appeared after reboot. I then deleted the language program and then the SQL Local db. 2014 Local DB is the last program uninstalled. Read the notices as you remove the various parts of MS 2014 SQL.

Re: Development Debugging Environment - Setup Help

Rick,
I only have the 2012 redistributable installed. I do not have the Entity Framework installed and I have the .Net framework 4.5.1 installed. MS does seem to load up the machine with stuff you probably don't want and does not ask you when it does it.

Re: Development Debugging Environment - Setup Help

Jon, I have removed "Entity Net Framework 6.1.1 Tools" for a gain of 145mb.
This makes a gain of 1.4 gb from removing unnecessary Microsoft Programs!

I still have installed
- Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 SDK 18.5mb
- Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1 Multi-targeting Pack 49.3mb
- Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1 Multi-targeting Pack (ENU) 74.5mb
- Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1 SDK 19.4mb
- Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.2 38.8mb

Are there any that you don't have on your computer?
Thanks very much for your help, the optimize window is now showing small but important gains in free space. After this iteration I will tackle other programs again.

Ps: also removing the 2010 Distributables now.

Re: Development Debugging Environment - Setup Help

Rick,
The only one I don't have is the .NET Framework 4.5.2. That is probably because I don't allow updates to software on the machine I am using, I only update a machine when I really have to as I prefer the stability. The machine is only a virtual instance used for windows compiles and is already in a secure location so I don't have virus checkers, firewalls etc. running on it normally as that is taken care of by other machines on the network.

That's not new for decades now: Get a new Windows OS or new Windows apps you have to buy new and faster hardware...

Ptizef Sorry your experience was similar to mine. You could follow some of the uninstalls that worked for me above. Jon and others bery helpful.

Re: Development Debugging Environment - Setup Help

Gerhard I have used Microsoft since 1984 and our CAD program requires it. As you can tell I don't always like MS, and have also tried linux with virtualbox which I liked until I updated linux and made a mess.

Thanks for your help

Re: Development Debugging Environment - Setup Help

JP...
Never seen this and can't reproduce on my reference VS2010 builder. The symbol you see missing should be in WXBASE30UD_VC_CUSTOM.DLL (it is on my system). I would try the following:
- Clean build of OpenCPN
- Use dependency walker to look at the WX DLLs
- Check that WX debug build was performed according to the instructions

Re: Development Debugging Environment - Setup Help

I have been shuffling programs around and would like to move my entire local "github"
directory from "

C:\Users\Rick\Documents\GitHub"
to
Some other appropriate location.. thinking of the root "C:/Github"

Because when I backup my personnal folders all the OpenCPN Devel & Plugins take an age. I suppose I could do an /EXC with XXcopy, but relocating would be easier long term I think.

Can I just "Cut" and "Paste" the Github directory to the new location?
Any suggestions for the best place to put "github"?

Note: I recently cut and "pasted" all of my "o-plugin" git directories from a "software" directory into "github". All it took to get the plugin compiling again again was to delete the ..build\cmakecache.txt file and then execute "cmake -T v120_xp .."

Would this be the same situation if I moved the entire "github" folder?
