Re: Climatology

Rick
Check the new documentation that comes with 3.3.2430.
All your screen shots were you click a thumbnail in a table to get a bigger picture, didn't make it. It's all because of the script, that pulls the documentation into one big page. Could you change this to a more traditional layout with just one picture after the other? Once 4.0 is released it's simple enough to revert to the current version.

Changed as you'd like
Climatology Plugin | Official OpenCPN Homepage

Might be worth a revert, as this is unlikely to change until the next version.

Re: Climatology

It was reported in the smoke screen thread that wind barbs do not work with climatology plugin 1.0. Can anyone else confirm this? The wind data was updated from 60nm to 15nm grid from the last version of climatology.

Re: Climatology

Sean,

I just applied for a push for the climatology plugin to be able to run on OSX.
Would you take a look at it?

I tested it for OSX Mavericks, ubuntu 64 and 32 bit.
Both OSX and Ubuntu for standalone building and in the OpenCPN tree.

I don't have a Windows environment, so I couldn't test for that.

Re: Climatology

Peter, It was compiling for Windows at Christmas as Standalone. I'll check again when Sean applies it, but Sean has a windows environment too. Thanks.

Re: Climatology

The latest version of climatology is available for OSX on this location:
https://github.com/ptulp/climatology...eases/tag/v1.o

Can somebody put it on the plugin download page please.

Thanks,
Peter

Re: Climatology

While it is possible to install the package, then manually download the data files and extract them it is my intention to automate this for osx as it is for the other platforms.

The pkg file should include all the files in the data directory and install them in the appropriate location.

Re: Climatology

Thank you so much for making the Climatology plugin available on Mac OS X !

I have installed it and did a first test run. Here are the first issues I run into, and some comments as well. Some of them might be more for the plugin itself than the Mac port, but here they are :

- Overlay map seems to work OK except when completely zoomed out. Isobars then display OK, but colors display in some horizontal banding that has nothing to do with the data (see attached screenshot)

- Wind barb display for the average wind seems erratic. Whereas the wind atlas is displayed OK, the average wind barbs rarely correspond to the speed figures. See attached screenshot : on the top right, with a speed of 15 knots, they should have 3 barbs and have only one, and on the bottom right, they have none.

- Could average wind and wind atlas be actually split into separate items in the main checkbox ? It would be useful to be able to display one or the other but not both, without fiddling in the Config.

- Units for precipitation are either meters, feet and inches, but are these annualized ? Is it possible to offer cm or mm as well, and/or to display figures (Numbers) with a decimal ? For example, skipping from 2 to 3m is quite significant and it could mean going from 1.6 to 3.4 or going from 2.4 to 2.6, which is really quite different.

- Proper writing of the units (as defined by the SI) are as follows : m/s instead of M/S and km/h instead of KPH.

- Spelling glitches : "Celcius" should be "Celsius", and "course" should probably be "coarse".

Please advise if I may be of any more use in testing the plugin somehow. I will be glad to provide more feedbacks if it helps.

Thanks to all those who have worked on this great tool !

Re: Climatology

Sean,

Are you planning to put the CL-DATA-* data file into the github data directory to execute the auto install of this datafile?

Re: Climatology

Dear belle isle.
Your observations are generally good, but please remember we have all tested ans Sean particularly has made an excellent plugin. So thank him there is not anything like it. Then please do put your observations in tracker under the climatology project (dropdown) so they are not lost. AND thankyou for being so throrough.

This is a known bug needs to be fixed

The wind barb display uses vector average, so you may find a speed of zero if all the directions cancel each other out

They could be split but I'm not sure everyone thinks this is better?

Re: Climatology

I am not succeeding with climatology installation on Fedora 20 64 bit.
I am using OpenCpn 4.0 from jeo repo.
Climatology downloaded from PlugIns | Official OpenCPN Homepage
complain about filesystem package conflict:
file /usr/lib from install of climatology_pi-1.0-1.x86_64 conflicts with file from package filesystem-3.2-19.fc20.x86_64

Has anyone succeeded with installation on Fedora?

Re: Climatology

I've found that the recent Windows Climatology exe do not have data and overwrite the data already in your files. Use this version which has all the most current data and does work with 4.0 as well as 3.2.2 please. Sorry for any inconvenience.

climatology_pi-1.0-ov3.2.2-f-db-new-win32.exe
has the most recent larger database and works with 4.0

OpenCPN Beta File Thingie Login rguser rgpass

Go to the 3.2.2 PI Win directory.

Re: Climatology

I don't have a Windows installation. Would the same comments apply also for a Fedora RPM?
