Re: celestial navigation plugin redux

hartmut,

pavel compiled the plugin on windows and fixed 1 line of code to make it work on windows, I am the author. As for saving sights.. it would be possible to do most anything, I just haven't gotten around to it.

Have you been able to use the plugin? I did not get feedback from anyone saying it works, so it would be nice if you could give me some details of experience.

Boat_alexandra,
so my thanks are going also to for such a great plugin.
Yes it works without any problems. At the moment i am testing with a smal plasticsextant because my real sextant is a few hundred miles away on my boat.
Also with some exercises out of scoolbooks it seems to be ok.
So i would encourage you to finalize this plugin.
As a feature i would request "save", "load sights" and "calulate a fix out of selected sights" .
As a question, what is/should be the function behind "Warp sights"?

Re: celestial navigation plugin redux

It is very good, boat_alexandra! Thanks to Pavel, too! for porting to Windows.

I am putting (phoney) sights in from Solex and Stellarium and it is spot-on! Of course, my computer's clock must also be accurate for these to work.

The "Find" function is handy for cockpit astronomers even if they are not using it for the sextant.

Re: celestial navigation plugin redux

Hi boat_alexandra
it would be fine if the index error could be entered in the folder "parameters"

Re: celestial navigation plugin redux

I tried the same plug in again and this time it worked, with OpenGL and not!
Don't know what the problem was earlier. Need to play with it more. Thanks Sean! and Pavel for compiling.

So, should the sights be saved and loaded from a file, or in the opencpn settings?

As far as calculating a fix.. Should it just show the region that certain sights overlap, or do you think it should find the center point of this region?

This URL describes the errors. It may be of interest.
How to use a Sextant
I cant vouch for its accuracy, don't know it good enough myself.

For me, both solutions would be fine

Re: celestial navigation plugin redux

Sean...
A Very appreciated tool. Works fine so far on WinXP. It forces me to make real of my long time thoughts to get my self a sextant and learn how to use it. For a passage and "you'll never know"...
I can agree on the wish for a index error preference and hence calculations.

Thanks
Håkan

Re: celestial navigation plugin redux

I think I'll add index error correction and possibly save the sights then should make a release and post it on the main site if there are not any major issues. Lunars would be fun but can wait for now.

Re: celestial navigation plugin redux

I made some updates, added index error, and even though it was tricky, added support to compute a fix from the sights. I would like to get some final testing before I submit this plugin to be posted on the main site for download

Re: celestial navigation plugin redux

Harmut, Give me a couple of minutes. I'll do it, but we're Hard rebooting factory reset a droid.

Git Clone for new program and then cmake 'd and it had three errors.
No new dll created.

So I think Sean has to fix this for Windows, he does something (always creates 3 errors if he doesn't)

We'll have to wait for him or Pavel.
