Australian Vector Charts for OpenCPN

From today on the complete portfolio of Australian Vector Charts is available for OpenCPN.


This creates a more affordable alternative to the already existing S-63 AusENC sets.


The Australian oeEVC set contains more then 870 single charts covering all scales from overview to berthing.
Papua New Guinea and the Solomons come included as part of the chart set.


The license includes fortnightly updates during one year.



Due to regulations we have to call these charts oeEVC (Electronic Vector Charts). Technically these are oeSENC charts and are handled by the same oeSENC plug-in.
The charts are available from the o-charts.org site like their cousins, the oeSENC vector charts.



Please take note that the Australian eoEVC requires the latest version of OpenCPN, 4.8.6 and as well the latest oeSENC plug-in, 2.4.0



The generated set is relatively big - about 800MB - so one should plan well when and where to download.

The oeSENC (or in the case of Australia oeEVC) set contains all the Australian vector charts as issued by AHS.

We know about additional charts for the West coast, the Western Australian Recreational Nautical Charts, available today as pdfs, not as charts ready to use for OpenCPN.
These charts might be getting available as plain S-57 charts in the future, if the information we received is correct.
Once issued they will be added to complement the AHS material.

I have downloaded the Australian Vector Charts from o-charts.org. My boat is currently on Lake Macquarie in NSW and the charts include a chart that covers the entrance to Lake Macquarie but not the lake itself. Does anyone know where I can get a chart of Lake Macquarie that will work in openCPN?

Navionics cover the lake, although depth may be a bit off. I have not used SASPlanet for a while, but it used to have Navionics as a source, and you might be able to use that to construct charts for OpenCPN.

Or simply use the Navionics app on a tablet/phone while you are in the lake.
