Oh man. I thought post 54 was wonderful yet the later one was even better. Good stuff.

aluminum is flexible, and durable.
also it can be replaced very easily, i plan to keep a welder on board, along with spare aluminum to do any repairs. no cure time, can be bent back to shape and repaired. i am not sure why any cat would be built with anything but aluminum?

Re: This May Sound Silly.... Mono Cat?

i was planning on coating the bottom of the bilge with bottom paint. it will not hurt anything, and when salt water gets in it would not be a big deal. it would also last nearly forever. we also plan to be in brackish water of fresh water most of the time. wintering over in rivers in FL.

Re: This May Sound Silly.... Mono Cat?

Scoobert, a year ago I rather strongly suggested that you actually go sailing, on the ocean, in less than ideal conditions, before you go much farther along with your frequently-changing plans. Have you done that? Because, it doesn't sounds like you have.

Frankly, it sounds to me like you get a notion and then start pursuing it with great mental energy, without having sufficiently thought through the fundamental problems with your notion, first. This results in you flailing around in ultimately fruitless directions. And, you don't seem to want to listen to people who have lots more knowledge and experience.

If you want to end up like that fellow in post #32, then go for it. Tilt at all the windmills you want, but watching you do this is a lot like watching:

My advice?

First, find out if you both can, and enjoy, long distance sailing! Before you spend tons of money and make huge decisions you can't easily back away from.

Then, if the answer to #1 is yes, and yes, and you have $200K with which to do it, then go find a boat that will fit within your budget and still leave you with a sufficient cruising kitty. There are lots of available boats that will do the job. Might not be what you fantasize about, might not be as big, luxurious, fast, etc., but the sunsets are the same -- just keep that in mind.

But, seriously, Scoobert, you sound like you're wasting a lot of time and energy pursuing silly ideas that will only endanger yourself/others or spend your money in ways that won't give you what you want. So, unless you just enjoy giving those of us who derive voyeuristic pleasure from watching train wrecks more entertainment, then why not actually listen and think for a bit?

Seems like the same old "good" members are always engaging in the sport of pig wrestling.

@Scoobert - You have a great plan to weld two aluminum hulls together and create something no one else has ever created. It will also fit your needs as you will have complete control over the process.

I certainly look forward to your updates.

Who am I to tell you how to spend your $200k? As long as you get it circulating in the economy the rising tide will raise all boats.

Scoobert,

I understand you'd like to purchase a waterfront property... I have a beach house in Atlantic City I'd like to sell for $200k... Are you interested?

There have been some pretty good aircraft derived from joining two planes together wing to wing. Don't get me wrong, I think the original poster's idea is a bad one.

Re: This May Sound Silly.... Mono Cat?

It could work.

If you make one hull slightly smaller than the other you could pack one inside the other when you transport them from the Roberts factory to your fitout site.

When you join the hulls together it won't affect the performance of the final structure. The effect of this on the final vessel will be negligible.

As you travel around the planet, you may consider joining other yachts to yours.

That way you could collectively reduce the cost of registration
