Passerelle (gangway) - worth having? Good designs?

I've had an ongoing problem getting people with limited mobility on and off my boat at marinas.

Generally, I place fenders and tie up in such a way that I have about a 4-8" gap between the landing on the gunwale. There is usually a step up or down.

What works to deal with this? Ideas?

We use a step, suspended from the toe rail, big enough (and with non-skid on it) for both feet. Then it is a shorter step down to the dock or up to the deck. We also use the step when getting aboard from the dinghy alongside at the shrouds.

I think if you're cruising in the Med, you'd want one. There's an old thread here that has some pictures of passarelles. You could try using the CF Custom Google Search, under the Search button, to find it, or Google on "pasarelles".

Yes on the Passerelle
Recently I was crew on a Lagoon 450
and had a few days before we shoved off
I ran out and bought a two step PVC
step ladder. All the crew rejoiced.
It came in real handy when we had to
reset the reefing lines on the boom
and the guy doing it was 6’4”
Cheers

Jammer, this is something like Ann suggested. Store bought or home made would be easy. There are some that double as fenders too.

We use a Plastismo fender step, they are made from one to four steps, ours is three.
It’s good for getting out of the dinghy as well as a dock.
Made in white too

Yes, a fender step is a good idea. We have a Danish one, the name of which I forget. Inflate and forget.

We had a light weight folding passerelle which hung from the top of the mast, stabilized by guy lines on each side tied to the stern.
Effective but a pain to set up and store in the lazarette when not in use.
While in Turkey we had a hydraulic passerelle installed with a wireless remote control. Fantastic. Best accessory for the boat ever we ever purchased.

Any chance on some more details please?
What design passarelle and how much did it cost? Did you install yourself?
Thanks

It was custom built by Bezenonli in Kemer Turkey cost Euro12,000.00 installed in '06.

Tucked down into the surgar scoop when not in use, it raises hydraulically level with the deck and extends about 4 meters. Used as a diving board when anchored. Never had a problem with it!

Worth every penny and invaluable when "Med Mooring".
Will try to find photos
