Wiring an ST60 Raymarine wind vane sensor through the hull

Hello all.

I did a search of the forums and Raymarine's website but could not find the info there.

I have a Columbia 8.7 that came with the wind speed and direction display but was missing the ST60 wind vane and wind speed sensor.

We purchased and installed the sensor and ran the cable through the mast to the mast step and then through the hull via a cable outlet with a rubber grommet.

We installed the Raymarine junction box in the cabin at the mast step and made our terminations there. We used the sensor and display for the 2023 season.

We just hauled out and de-stepped the mast. We want to install some type of connector at the mast step so that we don't have to pull the sensor wire through the deck.

The sensor wire is 4 conductor plus a shield. Most connectors I can find at only 4 conductor. Do I need to worry about the shield?

I was thinking of purchasing a metal connector (chrome) and bulkhead to mount to the deck. I could jury rig the sheild to the metal on the outside of the connector and the bulkhead. This would connect the shield all the way from the sensor to the display (gage)

I checked Raymarine's website but I don't see any connectors listed.

What do you think?

I thing you will find some waterproof 5 pin connectors in the NMEA2000 family.

Get a male/female extender, cut it in half, splice each end into your wind sensor cable using your best solder + heat shrink effort, and you're done!

... almost done.

Wrap the plug joint at the bottom of the mast with self annealing tape to ensure integrity- then you're done.
