Wireless Wind Speed/Direction Transducer?

A good friend wants to upgrade his instruments and high on the list is a new wind speed/direction gizmo. He prefers not to have to take down his mast to run the cable so is looking at the wireless variety, probably B&G, but not necessarily. What is the experience with these devices? If its the latest Bluetooth technology I would think it's pretty reliable. Comments?

Re: Wireless Wind Speed/Direction Transducer?

We had a Nexus, now Garmin on ours, and while you do have to locate the receiver in a good spot, once we did, the only problem we had is battery replacement every 2 years (If someone wants one for free, PM me I have one). When we redid ours after the hurricane, since we had to pull the stick, we went with wired. We have a big stick - 70 feet up. My understanding is that the entry level TackTick have a distance problem, and are designed for smaller boats.

Thanks for your feedback.
I can see that location of the receiver is critical, but I would hope that the latest BT technology would mitigate that issue. I may just ask B&G tech support to hear what they say.

Re: Wireless Wind Speed/Direction Transducer?

Tried a Garmin one. Did not work ~25-30’ up. No signal 95% of time. Screen mounted outside at helm

I would run a cable.
