Simple Boat Camera for Stern

Has anyone set up a simple video camera and monitor for rear view?
(sort of like the backup cameras for SUVs that keeps you from running over your kids)

We would like to see our rear view on a small monitor at the helm- not necessarily to integrate it with the chart plotter.

I read online that cheap monitors can be hard to see in sunlight. Otherwise, shopping info is hard to find. Not the usual use for video, I guess.

I've seen a couple of boats (mainly motor) that have used a simple and cheap 'home' CCTV system. You can buy these for well under 100 and come with a waterproof camera and a simple black and white tv display.

As you've got a trawler, you may find it even more usefull to get one with two cameras like this one, 5.5" BLACK & WHITE CCTV SECURITY 2 CAMERA BABY MONITOR on eBay (end time 05-Feb-11 10:51:16 GMT)
Then you can have one in the engine room as well.

The display itself will no doubt be hard to see in sunlight, just need to fit an adequate shade, like old radar screens used to have.
Previous owner of a 1994 Catalac 900, now sadly SOLD
