Robbing the NMEA network.....

I have a NMEA 2000 network on board, with a spare connection on the 4 way backbone beneath the helm......

I have a spare Power cable for an NMEA system...... could I use this to TAKE power out of the system..... to power a cigarette lighter type aux socket to plug my ipad into?...... its not much Current draw, I can't see a reason why not.....

thoughts?..... advice pls....

Re: Robbing the NMEA network.....

No, I wouldn't. A modern USB plug can draw over 3 amps for a double socket. This is more power than the NMEA2000 bus is designed to provide. Bad idea.
