plastic nema 2k field connectors?

Last year I stripped the cheap plastic nema 2k connector on the back of my Garmin 740s. It cost over $300 to get repaired from Garmin.

Does anyone know where I can by a plastic field connector (preferably right angle)?

I believe Amphenol LTW series (5 contact) connectors are the standard N2K connectors.

Check amphenolltw.com.

Digikey.com or Mouser.com carry them.

If it is a regular NMEA 2000 connector, The GPS Store (thegpsstore.com) carries them. Not sure that I have seen 90-degree versions, though. If it is a proprietary Garmin plug, I can't help there.

Re: plastic nema 2k field connectors?

Yes, Maretron makes nice field connectors. That's what I used the first time when I stripped the plastic threads on the Garmin. They don't seem to make plastic thread field connectors.

It's not clear if anyone does - at least not clear from my Google research. I was hoping someone here might have first hand knowledge.

Re: plastic nema 2k field connectors?

just buy a 90' plastic cable IE garmin and splice the cable down a bit... or replace whole drop cable. if you need to pass cable through a small hole. cut other side off instead when feeding it. and put field end at backbone. (should have done this anyways for water proofness)

Re: plastic nema 2k field connectors?

Did you strip the connector on the device or the drop cable? If the cable, use it to pull a new one (Connect as best you can and tape them together) or cut it off and use a field connector, but they tend to be much bigger and if you don't have a decent amount of length to pull it will be difficult to put one on.

If the device is stripped a new cable won't help.
