Is this a ram swing arm? Is it still made?

I would prefer to mount my radar using this type of swing arm......but I can't find the manufacturer....or even a current part number, etc... Is it still made? Is it RAM? All I can find current from RAM are the sand cast arms.

Thanks,

Does not look like a RAM, seems all RAM mounts use common parts, parts that I don't see on what you posted.
What you posted looks almost like a hospital TV mount or something? Just a WAG

I can confirm it's not a hospital tv mount......every mention of it I find online is in reference to swing mounting a chart-plotter or radar. As near as I can tell it shares the knobs/pivot bearings from the RAM mounts I can find.
I'm beginning to think it was superseded by the cast aluminium swing arm.

Re: Is this a ram swing arm? Is it still made?

No idea if this is close enough and your picture looks like a cleaner design:

Vertical Swing Arm Mount - Arm Mount - RAM Mount
RAM Vertical Single Swing Arm Mount with Electronics Base (U)

Product Number: RAM-109VU
Your Price: $77.33

The RAM single swing arm mount consists of a 6" long BENT swing arm mounted on a vertical surface mounting base. At the device mounting end of the mount is a rectangular 6.25" x 2" plate. There are two (2) pivoting points on the mount. One at the swing arm and base and one at the center of the rectangular plate and the end of the swing arm. Each pivoting point allows a complete 360 degree rotation.

Dimensions:
A. Center of knob to center of ball socket: 6"
B. Overall length of swing arm assembly: 11.4375"
C. Overall height: 8.45"

Material:
Powder Coated Marine Grade Aluminum

Looks familiar, but I don't recall the brand.

I expect you could assemble something very similar using RAM components...lots of options. Do you want to avoid RAM specifically?

You should also check w some of the consignment shops, like "Sailor Man", bet they will know, and they might even have one.

Don't want to avoid RAM specifically, but all the swing arm mounted radar displays I can find are on this. And I like the simplicity.

Re: Is this a ram swing arm? Is it still made?

I have installed a number of these RAM mounts, both on my own and other's boats. The illustration Sailmonkey gave appears to be a precursor to the RAM, with lightening holes. The knobs and base appear the same. I love these units. I often couple them with two arms, and sometimes three, to meet the need. They are strong, secure and attractive.

So still a ram, but now out of production? Damn, I'll need to learn to like the sand cast arm.

You can always make one. Two cylinders welded to a flat plate with lightening holes drilled in it, painted black. I like the cast ones because of the curve, it allows for some variety in mounting the units to achieve maximum sweep. I'm sorry, I can't seem to find my photos of some installations.

Re: Is this a ram swing arm? Is it still made?

I've been toying with the idea of making one too, but with the time involved to dig out the welder, source all the knobs and stock......unless I need some dimension that's not available it doesn't make sense.

Re: Is this a ram swing arm? Is it still made?

Buy it, don't reinvent the wheel. Your time is far more valuable than the price for this fine product. I use these for installing multifunction displays so they can be visible in the companionway from the cockpit, or swung away to a fixed position near the nav table. I'm really frustrated I can't find my pictures of these installs. I often use two arms, mounted serially, to provide a long reach that folds up compactly. I have two of them on my boat, one holding a laptop, the other holding the MFD. I can then push them out of the way to open the chart table, or position them for easy access when I'm using them. In transit or rough conditions I shock cord them into a fixed position. The friction knobs work extraordinarily well under most conditions of use. You'll like them. My nav station is torn apart, at the moment, as I continue my overhaul, so, no pics (sigh).

I have one that I would be willing to sell if you want one. It looks like the ones at the bottom.
