Does anyone know why Datamarine link 5000 Navlink would show an error when hooking the GPS output to the link bus. The signal is strong enough for Autohelm 4000ST but Navlink display on Datamarine gives an error code which I traced to signal too weak. NMEA 173 is the format. I am using a portable GPS receiver. I am looking to buy GPS with antenna so that the signal is stronger. Are there any members with Datamarine 5000 that succesfully display GPS signal. If so which gps receiver was used? Petar |

NMEA standards say you can output NMEA to 3 readers with only one talker. This is an RS-232 signal and distance can be a factor. How long are the cables? Are you sure you mean NMEA 173 and not 183? As far as I know the signal is the same strength no matter the GPS device. If you need a stronger signal then you'll need a repeater not a new GPS. I also think your problem lies some place else. Bad wires would be my first guess.

i didn't know the 5000 had capabilities to accept gps signals. maybe you have a different version than I do? I just got my sailboat, and if you have any idea how I can get my hands on a copy of the owners manual , I'd be most grateful. -Paul |
