Receiving weather info

I few years ago, I remember reading that you can receive weather info and maps by hooking up an SSB receiver radio to a computer but for the life of me I can't remember how to hook it up.
I just came upon an old Radio Shack DX-440 radio that can receive SSB signals and I think I remember that it should do the job. If I remember right, it hooks up to a computer and then downloads maps and information right into the computer for viewing.
Anyone out there have any idea how I can accomplish this? Since i don't have an honest to God SSB, I figure this will do until I do.
