gps and windows 10

Greetings all,

There has been an issue with recent windows update rendering our usb gps inop. like hard crash.

I have not found a fix or way around, did go back to delete updates but no change.

All works well on wifes computer, with no updates for a while.
Any ideas or suggestions?

Does Windows crash when you plug the USB into the computer?

If there is a restore point dated recently you could try restoring to that point and see what happens.

Re: gps and windows 10

Thank you for the response.

No matter when the usb connection is made it crashes. Have read many stories re this, something to do with centenial update?
tried getting rid of up dates, but honestly this is out of my realm.
Just thought with many here using usb gps for nav like ocpn, etc. would know of a fix or is it time to figure a different way to get gps to my computer.

Thanx

Re: gps and windows 10

If you know the make and model of your USB GPS device, you can ask the vendor or Google around to find out whether there's a specific driver you need for it on Windows 10.

A while back, there was a rash of USB devices (serial-to-USB, including GPS fobs) made using counterfeit FTDI serial-to-USB chips, and FTDI has sometimes released drivers that will detect the counterfeits and fail to run. If that's the case, you might be able to find an older or de-fanged driver that still works.

You might also retest the GPS thingy on an older Windows or Linux computer just to confirm that it will still run.
