Calibration of wind instrument angle for Raymarine system?

I have a full Raymarine instrument package - 2015-era e90 chart plotter and i70 displays, autopilot, and sensors for speed, depth, wind, etc. The masthead wand for the wind direction and speed is mounted about 6 degrees to port and is rock solid in that position. I’ve been doing a fair bit of upwind recently and have finally noticed that while the apparent wind angle shows 28 degrees on starboard tack it shows 40 degrees on port tack, for the exact same sail trim.

Is there a way to calibrate the apparent wind angle to offset the wand angle? I can’t see anything about it in the manuals. I really don’t want to be moving or bending the wand - surely there is a software setting somewhere for this?

I simply want to have the same apparent wind angle on each tack so that when I auto-tack I don’t have to reset the autopilot’s apparent wind angle each time. Then I won’t have to decide between letting go of my sweetie or of my beer to make the autopilot adjustment after a tack anymore (say ‘yay’ for self-tacking jibs).

You could manually rotate the sensors.

Even if you could calibrate it, depending on the sea state and wind shear the angle will be different for each tack. My autopilot doesn't have this limitation, it can tack to different angles on port vs starboard.

Looks pretty straight forward, pages 48-49 of the installation manual.

It is very straightforward. Details in the manual as to how to get into Callibration Mode. A useful trick is to do it in a light wind, flat sea, at anchor so that you boat is heading exactly into the wind.
Best of luck

The wind angle can be calibrated. However what I think you are seeing is the wind twisting around the sail. This happens when the headsail suncover gets a bit of twist from furling and the wind instrument isn't far enough out to get into clear air. See if sailing on the main alone gets the same results.

The calibration procedure is in th manual. It's also on the Ray Marine internet.
Best is to do the full recalibration, dealer calibration, send someone up the mast
To hold the vane and carry out what can be an annoying procedure of pressing and holding buttons. I found I had to do it a few times before I had any success.

Enjoy! Being an ex wet bum sailor I never look at the thing except it saves looking up the mast when sailing downwind.

Cheers

I never had much luck calibrating dead ahead, there is too much variation. I do it by going to windward on each tack and splitting the difference to adjust, then repeat for fine tuning the last degree or two. The user calibration is pretty straightforward.

Thanks for the replies. When I go to my boat tonight I’ll see if I can access the transducer menu option.

Hi Found the user calibration didn't last. That's why I used Dealer Calibration. Maybe there are differences between models.

How is the dealer calibration accessed?

Do you have the manuals that came with it?

Yes, but not with me. The PDF manual online shows transducer calibration accessed from the setup menu but I don’t see dealer calibration.

I believe 'dealer calibration' is a leftover in people's minds from the ST60 days, it doesn't exist with the i70. Do what the manual says.
