B&G Triton speed problem.

A friend just installed a new B&G Triton system. Knotmeter Impeller when spun by hand gives a speed reading but when installed in thru hull gives no reading on the display when boat is moving. Anyone ever deal with this?

Re: B&G Triton speed problem.

We have a new B&G as well and have the same failure on our combined speed / depth sensor. B&G just issued a recall on some of those units and ours is in that serial number range (sorry, I don’t know the numbers and a quick google didn’t find it.). We are waiting now on the replacement unit. Try calling B&G support...? We also have a faulty VHF remote (bad mic) and our wind sensor disappears requiring a “discovery devices” to be run to get it back. A bit disappointing on a $20k total B&G refit!

Re: B&G Triton speed problem.

Re: B&G Triton speed problem.

Yes, and it would occasionally work in water but it got worse. My gear was professionally installed so when the installer showed up he instantly said that B&G had issued the recall the prior day and verified the serial number and at that point did not pull it to see if it worked or not. So not clear if it was spinning under water once it was consistently at 0 knots.

Worth mentioning is that we had just completed a 3 week trip where it remained failed and after about half done with the trip I reprogrammed the system to use SOG from the GPS so the rest of the calculations (like true wind) would work. Imperfect but kept things working fairly well. Obviously no info on current / tide but at least wind info was good.

Re: B&G Triton speed problem.

Thanks for the reply and info. I'll pass the word along to my buddy to get his serial number and call B&G to see if his transducer is recalled.
