- Sailing monohulls since 1995. Started with a Catalina 30 (learned to sail on her), then moved to a Freedom 38 (nice boat, but prefer a traditional rig) and now a 2005 Beneteau Oceanis 523, solent rigged (purchased spring 2017).
Tons of long season sailing in Rhode Island and Massachusetts (but always dry for the winters), including many multi-week trips, and occasional charters in the Caribbean. Now preparing the boat for offshore, as we plan on a trip to the eastern Caribbean starting fall 2019 with my family (wife, two boys who will be 10 and 15 when we depart, and Daisy our yellow lab).
Enjoy working with wood, including having built a Shellback sailing dinghy from rough cut lumber and countless other smaller projects. Can repair most things on the boat, though I'm short on knowledge of engines and I'm always disappointed in the quality of my fiberglass and gel coat work.
Professionally, I am an entrepreneur focused on computer technologies (background is programming). Thinking I might start some boat-related software project during our time cruising the Caribbean. Then again, maybe I'll just relax, swim and enjoy life...!
