Re: Why aren't there cruising report threads?

And don't forget the SSCA... that's what they have been doing for a number of decades, going back to mimeographed newsletters and snail mailings. They are very good at this, to t his day, and I see no need to add another site to dilute the info into difficult to find bits.

And for those that just want to talk about their travels, you are already free to do so here on CF, and will get an appreciative audience.

And don't we have the Cruising Wiki here on CF for the collection of specific port/region related info? Have a look there, and contribute if y ou feel so inclined.

Re: Why aren't there cruising report threads?

I don't write a blog - just long-winded logs which appear here and other places, in different sub-forums.

Subscribers get it in ordinary email - all text, so loads very fast...

FWIW ☺

See the yahoogroup for all of them if you want more cruising stories than you can consume in a sitting, or a day, or, likely, a week...

Re: Why aren't there cruising report threads?

Seems there are 2 types of cruisers, those that talk about it, and those that are cruising. The cruisers don't have a need to talk about it, 'cause they're doing it.

Then there are the SSCA cruisers such as we who leave a clean wake, which includes telling about the adventure so that those who are drooling on the outside can get a taste, or in the case of stupidity or coincidence, learn something the hard way, can share so that others don't have to do the same thing.

Among other reasons...

If you take the time to go there check out the top threads: Ride Reports - Epic Rides and Ride Reports - Day Trippin'

A few threads for sharing cruising reports would be a nice addition to Cruisers Forum. Maybe there are some and they are buried somewhere. If so they ought to be dusted off and brought up to the top level where they can be appreciated. Can anyone point me to any here- or does anyone know if there are any forums/websites that have good cruising reports?

Thanks
Hi Jim,

Along with the leads others provided in this thread, check out The Monkey's Fist [an aggregation of cruiser's blogs...]

Cheers!

My apologies; I meant to also say to check out the yahoogroup in the sig line; it will have more stories than you can digest in a sitting, or, likely, even, a marathon.

FWIW, those are not blogs, but logs; subscribers get them in the mail, all text, quick download despite their usually being pretty long-winded. subscribe there, if you like; I'm currently a couple behind - you won't have to get web interface to receive it if you're a subscriber...

Start with the beginning to see how not do do a wreck, and then, dust yourself off/rinse off and towel dry, get back out there...

Re: Why aren't there cruising report threads?

A little while ago there was a posting about the need for some more civility or politeness on this forum....I think Stu Jackson's comments are WAY over the top and is exactly what the previous forum was trying to address ---I'm sure that Stu's reply to the original poster will do little to encourage him or others to make suggestions or contribute ---Stu's response is why my wife says this forum is inhabited by way too many 'grumpy old men' ---I don't know how old Stu is but I suggest that he should try and tone it down a bit and try to not be so 'grumpy'
Oh and by the way ---I've got nothing personal against Stu...its just that if we don't call people out on things like this then it won't get any better (PS: other people's comments/suggestions were very helpful and to the point)

Re: Why aren't there cruising report threads?

It is a fine idea. CF is a Great resource for so many cruising topics, why not travelogues and cruisimg reports? Isn't cruising the ultimate goal? I dont see why asking about it elicits such negativity. The forum seems to be getting a reputation for this, to bad really.

You're just looking for something that's already out there that you can find with a little work on YOUR part.

You could also do a search on this forum using the word BLOG. There was a topic recently asking about folks' favorite blogs.

I always get a kick out of folks asking about obvious stuff and saying:"Somebody should.."

If you think it's so critical, then DO IT and stop complaining that no one else has done it before.

If no one else has done it before, then maybe it's not so critical, huh?
Somebody needs a nap...

Re: Why aren't there cruising report threads?

OK, I'll take a nap, but first...

I said, in a different manner, just what Gord said. His had a lot more humor.

If it doesn't exist, it is usually for a good reason. And folks who complain it doesn't exist, should volunteer to make it so.

This thread has PROVEN that the information is out there, albeit in a different form and with different "links" than the OP may have liked.

On the internet, not everything is in "one place."

Except for our C34 website which I & tons of others have been working on for the past 17 years, doing exactly what the OP wanted: everything in one place.

Many, many C34-ers and other boaters who visit have worked and still work hard at it, but I ENJOY DOING IT and helping other boaters, and so do they.

We all volunteered our time and effort to assemble a ton of information, much of which I cross linked right here on CF when people ask questions, since it is not all boat specific.

FYI, a friend is trying to do the same thing for the venerable C30, since their information is in at least three different places. He's working on it.

So, to the OP, have the answers in this thread helped you? Do you still feel the "need" vs. the want, to have something else?

Thanks folks. Goin' sailin' for a few days. That oughta cure me, right?
