REESE PALLEY passes

Just read today that REESE PALLEY has passed away yesterday at 93.

He was a successful business man, writer and accomplished sailor and circumnavigator.

I once sent him an e-mail in 2009, as my wife was trying to locate one of his books. I never expected to receive a reply.

The next day the phone rang and the person one the other end said, hi, this is Reese Palley. I was totally taken aback. He wanted to know all about us and about our boat and what our sailing plans were. He promised to help locate a copy of his book and would be back in contact. E-mails were exchanged and the book was located.

He was the real deal, and we became distant friends. Regret never having had the opportunity to meet him in person.

His books are quite unique and encouraging, especially to us older sailors.

Sorry about the date, I screwed up on that. He apparently passed in June, 2015, so maybe someone has already posted the news, if so I missed it.

The Admiral advises that it was all my fault.

Never the less he was a very impressive and well thought of person, always taking the time to attempt to assist the little guy.

A very effective and fitting obituary. We should all be so fortunate to be remembered so.
