My latest adventure starts today!

After many months of planning and intensive engineering I'm setting off on a new sailing adventure. I have taken the engine, frame and wheels from a 1951 ford pickup and will be mounting my 34 foot sailboat on top of it.

I'll be using 2x4's, old spare ropes and a few rolls of duct tape to secure the boats full keep to the ford pickup frame. Then I will set sail east on interstate 80 on a voyage of discovery of the new world.

The only hard part will be getting over the mountains. But think I'll just use a really large spinnaker and lots of cats (the furry kind, not the two hull kind) which should be enough to get me over that hump.

My only question is what anchor do I use when parking and what type of canon do I mount near the bow.

Should make for an exciting trip... See ya'll on I-80 east!!

Personally, I'd go for a Nikon, not a Canon. But hey, that's just me.

Welcome to CF .

It sounds a great plan .......don't let the naysayers put you off (they will no doubt be along shortly ).........I say: GO FOR IT!

My only question is, what color duct tape have you decided is best?

When anchoring make sure your beam on to the swell...
Recommend Bahamian with grapnels

Well I find that it takes at least three different colors of duct tape. Gray of course for structural, Blue for higher torsional loading and pink for cross bracing and because it looks nice...

I've done something similar.... The scariest part was coming down from the Rockies.... Consider more than just a drogue... I wish I had...

Thats where I reverse the big spinnaker and mount it off the stern. Should make a great braking sail. Where did I put that 10 oz spinnaker cloth? Guess I could also throw out some warps of line and a few anchors too..

Re: My latest adventure starts today!

I don't think they will allow you to fly the spinnaker on I-80, when you hit Sacramento you will need to take hwy 50 over the hill, you can raise it here.....

But should have it doused before Meyer's Grade.
