GPS Transmitter/ security

Can you name me a reliable (sub-) miniature GPS transmitter/device which can be located world wide (actually the functionality I am trying to describe is in ever IPhone) in case of boat-theft?

Thanks in advance

Sure. There are bunches of them, called "GPS trackers." the down side is that you have to pay for a SIM card each month.

Such a capability is not in ever[y] iPhone.

GPS location is in every Android phone/tablet and iPhone when they are in cellular coverage areas. Which is completely different to "world wide".

This may be what you are looking for;

Edit: Nope, like all the other similar devices, despite claiming to "work world wide", it's just another GSM/GPRS transmitter so only works when in cell coverage Typical of such devices, it's full of hype and you have to read very carefully to find out what you are actually getting.

Re: GPS Transmitter/ security

Spot Trace is just what you're looking for, a match box size satellite only (so true worldwide reception, even in the middle of the ocean) box.

Last a few months on four AAA batteries, it's cheap to but but service has gone up recently. I've had mine for four years and love everything but the terrible app, keep it hidden and change batteries a few times a year.

There's competing products, but not sure anything beats the battery life of this one.

Re: GPS Transmitter/ security

Spot is a good idea but finding a hidden location that would still get the signal to the satellite might be challenging.

For what it's worth, mine is getting good signal on the inside of my propane locker in the cockpit. The 4-5mm thick cover doesn't seem to affect performance.

If you already have AIS B just leave it on. Download the Marine Traffic app, add your vessel to My Fleet and you’ll get regular status updates.
