Coast Guard Searches for Ailing Boater off Brevard Coast.

Take a look here for the story....

Coast Guard searches for ailing boater off Brevard coast | Brevard County News - WESH Home

I went to my boat yard today and his boat was there being guarded by two coasties. There was crime tape sealing it off, fingerprint powder all over it and they removed the electronics.

Very weird to see it. Even more weird to here all the tales being spun about his disappearance.

It's on the hard at the moment. But will be in a slip soon. I needed a place to replace my thru-hulls. I was just up the river a bit at Adventure Yacht and really liked it there as well.

Re: Coast Guard searches for ailing boater off Brevard coast.

We were about 30 miles south of there offshore when this was going on. Listened to it on the VHF as the CG reported a medical emergency for about 3 hours, then after they arrived on scene they called out a 'possible man overboard'. They setup up a search for the rescue boat and the helo that was something like 20x40 miles. They asked the boarding team if there was a Spot onboard and if there was a laptop. Very strange.

Grand way to "off" yourself and have the family still get the insurance!

I was wondering about Sea love...the current is pretty strong thru there. I'm at Halifax Harbor...just wish I was closer to the inlet.

Just wanted to add that I know Patrick Cornelius and that is NOT the story here. Patrick was the most enthusiastic sailor I have ever known. He loves his life and his wife. Prayers would seem to be in order.

You definitely need to time your coming and going.

Re: Coast Guard Searches for Ailing Boater off Brevard Coast.

Just did a search to see if there were any updates and came upon an admiralty claim on the boat by the towing company. I understand he needs to be paid, and it's probably standard procedure, but it just seems a bit cold to me.

Re: Coast Guard Searches for Ailing Boater off Brevard Coast.

Haven't heard anything on the news. Maybe I'll hear something at the marina this weekend.

I can see how it could appear "cold", but it's their business and sop for any unpaid tow, I don't blame them. Sad story, I hope answers are found, def strange.

Re: Coast Guard Searches for Ailing Boater off Brevard Coast.

The Coast Guard probably took the electronics to see if any of it had recorded his route and they could then back track it.
He reported chest pains to the CG. A friend of mine had a heart attack and fell overboard while his boat was at the dock.
