Re: Caribbean boat storage ?

That's about what we pay to store a 44 foot catamaran on the hard in Grenada.

Re: Caribbean boat storage ?

The wife likes that idea!

We won't have a boat until later this year or next, so will probably want to tie up a spot at a yard as soon as we know for the summer of '19. Not sure where we will find a boat and of course how long it will take us to make it down there anyway. Many many unknowns at this point, but still exciting

Re: Caribbean boat storage ?

Many insurance companies consider Grenada and Trinidad to be in the hurricane belt and charge a premiem but will usually insure you there. I ended up leaving our boat in the water in a very good marina in Grenada as the requirements for storing our boat on the hard could not be met there at that time. Things may have changed as that was a couple of years ago but I doubt it.

Re: Caribbean boat storage ?

Sail north to St. John. Find a mooring at the Westin. They also have a decent size dock they might have space.

The Westin is being redone. Will not be finished until Dec 2018 at the earliest.

Nice , quiet, safe, etc... Dry dock when you are there otherwise they will strip it like a Cadillac in Harlem .

Re: Caribbean boat storage ?

We currently store our Shearwater 39 on the hard at Peake Yacht Sevices in Chaguaramas, Trinidad. They are first class in all aspects and Chaguaramas has a lot to offer when it comes to supplies and services.
Our insurance company gave us an excellent rate based on the fact that she is stored in Trinidad. Last season l spent sometime looking at and pricing all the yards in Grenada and nothing compared to the deals that Peakes and Powerboats were offering. That might have changed since last years hurricanes but for the sake of an overnight sail from Grenada l would strongly recommend looking at Trinidad.

When back home in South Africa l sleep much better knowing that Trinidad from a hurricane perspective is arguably the safest Caribbean island.

Send me a PM if you need more info.

Re: Caribbean boat storage ?

Looks like we will need to start early after we buy a boat trying to figure out where to park her off season. Thanks S Pride, A Ward and R Sailor for the info. We will need to start planning early to find a place to park a boat off season in '19. We will start looking for a boat in earnest after the Annapolis boat show, as I retire a few days later.

Find a broker then find a boat, then make more concrete plans. A big unknown for us was cost to store.

Thanks for the great insights!

Re: Caribbean boat storage ?

Another vote for Grenada Marine. Exc. marine trades there and you can hire people to keep track of your boat for not too much.
