31 Island Packet on ebay

Anyone out there looking for a good starter boat that could use some TLC. Right now on eBay there's a 1983 31' Island Packet, looks to be a decent boat with a lot of extras, and the crazy thing about it is that it's a boat angel boat, which means somebody donated this boat. You just don't normally see boats of this quality being donated. Somebody's gonna get a good deal.

Be careful, especially after last years hurricanes.

No hurricane damage to be found...going to be a labor of love...set my hard ceiling at 10k...but exceded that by plenty.... Removed 100 bees nests, cleaned for 4 days...new head, new seacock and thru hull, bottom paint, needs 2 cabinets replaced, new batteries and running rigging....so far... Under 2 boat units so still under 20k....

I went over her with a moisture meter and hull and deck show no issues... Some deck leaks need to be addressed. Stove, engine and fridge seem to be in good order. Electrical systems are working. Holding tank has been replaced with plastic.

Now to see what the wife thinks ....

Supposedly an IP deck cannot get wet, I have even seen a boat that was sunk for awhile, and the decks still didn’t get wet.

Yea core samples on board are pretty amazing... Big scary will be chainplate inspection...until then i won't sail anywhere i can't walk home from.. If necessary I will go with external...

I don’t think there is a way to actually inspect an IP’s chainplates, not really as they are almost inaccessible, and they under a layer of glass.
No sure I would go external, but if you do try to get someone who is knowledgeable to advise you, or at least go big to spread out the load.
The hull up that high isn’t really all that thick.
The layup on an IP is not excessive, maybe .25” on average?
Original design it’s my opinion relies a lot on the hull to deck joint for its strength
