The maker of the police radar gun (I forget the name) tried to market that back in the 1980's.
I invested about 10k in his company, but it went bust.

I always thought it could be improved upon a little bit and marketed to the marine industry.

What product do I wish existed? A helical screw anchoring system! No more anchor anxiety.

Re: what product do you wish existed?

stowage organizers that don't require emptying the locker to get to something

effective life vests that stow easily

effective sun screen lotion that doesn't get all over the boat

an effective (i.e., user-friendly) inventory system and preventive maintenance system (voice-activated commands)

inexpensive solid-state hard drives and powerful, low power, 12 vDC computers

an open-source friendly chartplotter

inexpensive (or at least affordable) technology to detect partially submerged objects well in advance of collision

Whale pod proximity alarm

long-lived head tubing that never permeates odor

mildew-less headliners

a worldwide network of short term dinghy/bicycle barterers so you never have to carry one far

quiet fans (even the current quiet ones are loud)

inexpensive LED's with good "reading" characteristics

solar panels that are immune to small shadows

inexpensive reliable wireless instrumentation

effective boat security devices: anti-theft, anti-piracy

permanent corrosion-less electrical splices

safe, inexpensive, stowable, light-weight, compact dinghy ingress/egress facilitators

A secondary fermentor (gimbaled?) with baffles to prevent sloshing underway but allow racking homebrew

an effective, permanent, international solution to Gulf of Aden/Indian Ocean piracy so we can once again transit the Suez safely

Now all you need is a watermaker powered by the bird poop runoff!

Re: what product do you wish existed?

A portable bow thruster that would act like an electric trolling motor. It would snap into a retainer near the anchor roller. Controls would be at the wheel via a joy stick, wires to unroll from the thruster aft to the cockpit. Total cost would be about $300. When not in use it would be stowed on the rail like a small outboard.

They already exist
They are called trolling motors
They are stowed on the rail like small outboards
You just need to organise the right bracket to mount for usage

How about a vhf that has its own gps receiver! The seagull nappies got a laugh here too, reminds me of my mum when out walking she got hit by a pelican poo, a direct hit.

I believe this was developed centuries ago. It's called "copper pipe."

All we need is a way to make this technology work on a boat. How hard can that be?

An IPOD and speakers which generate their own power as you play them... oh and a self-powering laptop...

Cat man,

Thank you for your informative response. Please provide a manufacturer for demountable bow thrusters? I will need one with a six foot telescoping leg since my boat has high freeboard forward.
