C. Plath Hamburg Stubbenhuk 25 - 1929 Sextant

I need help with this item.

C. Plath Hamburg Stubbenhuk 25 Sextant. Original box includes assessories and tools. Box is in excellent condition for a 82 year old product. The Sextant was purchased by my grandfather in 1929 and delivered from Germany before WWII. He used it during his service with the Navy in WWII. I have a 7 months old baby and I have decided to sell it to pay some bills. A local sailer has offered me $300.00 for the Sextant and the Perulos. I need your advice to determine if that is a fair offer or what is the FMV for these items? All replies are welcome.

If in good condition, I think you should be able to get twice what you have beem offered.
Do a google search and you'll see some prices for older Plath Sextants.
Shame you have to sell it.

sextant | eBay

Consult EBay. Out of hundreds of "sextant" listings, most are decorative knock-offs or cheap tat. But there are a few of the real things there. I suggest you have the item evaluated for condition, index issues and functionality. Selling it as a semi-antique instrument yields one price, but if it works and you can back up "the story", then you can ask a higher price because it's not just a nautical knick-knack.

Re: C. Plath Hamburg Stubbenhuk 25 - 1929 Sextant

Thanks for the advice. I wii have it evaluated before I sell it. Tropicalescape I will keep you On top of my list before I sell it. Does anyone know a place in Maryland to get it calibrated and evaluated? Also I searched on the web and I can't fine a similar model. The close I get is the 1942 Plath. Please send link if you know of any.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

I'd call weems and plath in annapolis. If they can't do it I bet they know someone local that can.

Probably more like it. Someone will buy at that price. Not me, however: I've got a '70s Freiberger in fine nick already!
