Re: barnacle rid in Australia

I could be wrong, but I believe it works in conjunction with the antifouling.

Yes, well, you still need to use anti fouling paint in conjunction with the ultrasonic systems. They are not a replacement for it.

Yeah, right.

Barnacle Rid
Just went back and looked at their web site and yep, that's the claim. But according to the diver this bottom does have mossy, slime stuff that is prevalent here in the Chesapeake. He said it was thin and easily brushed off with his hands. I thought the fact that he couldn't find any hard growth pretty impressive...

This isn't an ultrasonic system though. Seems to be more of an electrolytic system.

I stand corrected.

Re: barnacle rid in Australia

Hi

On my 42ft Catalina Mk1 I have installed a 4 transducer ultrasonic system and The Barnacle RID copper electrode system.

I have an associate degree in Electronics Engineering & have been practicing in the aero space industry for over 40 years.

I have owed the vessel for 3 years and I am completely competant in all of its electrical systems.

Both anti foul systems were installed as per the manufacturer's spec.

Both systems have been operating on my boat for over 16 months.

They were installed before a complete handstand clean & anti foul.

In a nut shell they really do not work.

I recently dived under the vessel & emptied a tank of air scraping hard shell barnacles off the hull.

There was no evidence on any part of the hull that showed reduced growth of hard shell infestation.

I hope my observations help.

As the hardstand owner stated to me.

" If such systems worked he would have been out of business 20 years ago"

I would like to here from other users that have such systems installed on vessels moored in the Port Hacking which has a huge reputation for barnacle attack.

Regards Greg
