Safety check when departing NZ

Hi

I have a US flag sailboat.
Im planing to depart NZ soon and sail to fiji.
I have been warned from people about having my boat to a certain standard. I probably do not fit NZ requirements.

Anybody knows if these safety requirements are just for NZ flag vessels or is it also for foreign vessels?

We left NZ less than a year ago for Fiji on a Brit boat. NZ category I regulations only apply to NZ boats.

As Moondancer said there are no safety checks for non-NZ registered yachts when clearing out of NZ. Kiwi yachts require a tough Cat 1 survey.
