Cruisers health insurance?

What,s out there for eastern Carib? Western Carib and Mexico? Available to US citizens? We,ve looked all over for something but come up dry, and I know I saw an article by a woman about same, but have no idea where. Anybody have anything on this? US costs too much.

Re: Cruisers health insurance?

I have a few favorite companies and will happily guide you in the process. It really depends on how much, if any coverage you want inside the USA as well as what you cruising timeline looks like.
Age and preexisting conditions will influence what we go with as well as the price.
Send me a pm with your ages and I'll be happy to see if I can help out.
I've been helping cruisers get insurance for the last seven years and have sponsored the baja haha twice.

Re: Cruisers health insurance?

I have some happy clients with IMG for sure. At the same time I feel like my clients with Seven Corners Reside blue are happier. also the new Geo-Blue is awesome, but significantly pricier.

Re: Cruisers health insurance?

we were going to join a group plan out of south africa but at age 68(at the time) they would not take us - to old -
we are not insured - pay cash for everything - find medical cost out side the usa much less expensive and quality very good -

OH -- we put out our cost out there the other day and includes how much we have paid for medical -- search on 5 years cost data in the dollars and cents area

Re: Cruisers health insurance?

The international health policies, like IMG tend to have onerous pre-existing conditions terms. They define them extremely broadly and then when accepted they limit the max policy payout to an unreasonably low amount for anything pre-existing. Outside the US health care is generally pretty reasonable. For us, we want to protect our assets from an extreme bill. We are not looking for a pre-paid medical care. We can take care of all the normal medical issues out of pocket while cruising. If your income is low, less than about 55K per couple, then look at signing up for an ACA policy. This will be cheaper and handle any large outlays you might have to make for an extended illness or emergency. Backing it up with a DAN policy for evacuation is also worthwhile.

Re: Cruisers health insurance? re PANTAENIUS

WARNING/CAVEAT to all re. PANTAENIUS CREW INSURANCE UK

This very month my crew health insurance which cost 1000€ in 2012,
1200€ in 2013 w as upped without notice by €300 last year May.
For 2014 the policy costs €1800!!!!!!!!!

What is more is that when I complained about the absurt increases I was told there was a MISTAKE in that only if the vessel you own is insured through PANTAENIUS may crew opt for health insurance as an optional benefit (??)

As a result PANTAENIUS Hamburg informed me that in the event of hopitalization it would have been unsure if I were insured as the basic condition was not met in the first place.

PANTAENIUS UK states I do not have to have the yacht insured to get the health care PANTAENIUS GER & Holland state it IS a condition . I rest my case Philip
