Website advice - have a look please.

Is this the right spot for a post about contents of a website?


I have put 2 versions of a location map on my site and wonder what looks better for family, landlubber friends and cruising people too.

Can you have a look at see what you think, please?

Both work equally well. The zoom tools permits the viewer to have some control.

For some reason (not sure what) the bottom scroll bar is active. You might wish to narrow the columns somewhat.

Thanks Narrowed version 1 but its still wider than pic below. Dont want the map to be too up and down... good thoughts

Yes, the V2 graphic is smaller. Load time is a pain for slow connections (like on peoples boats) but doesnt matter for the landlubber mob But I can't see how many KB's each image is because its embedded so cant see how much slower and if it will be a real difficulty. If people are interested in he page I guess they will accept a few extra seconds, but not if the have to zoom etc. Its food for thought.

Hi Chuck, its Google Maps Google Maps and click on Login or MyMaps I think you need a Gmail account which is a bore, but fortunately I have one I dont use.
Click "Create New Map" and the toolbar come up - that puts the lines and waypoints on.
Then just get the map to where you want and click "Link to this Page" the click "Customise and Preview this Map" Fix it up and cut and paste the code. In the "Customise and Preview this Map" as you move the map the code changes. Its quite nifty and much easier than the other Google Maps thing that is meant to be more sophisticated!

As for map size its a bit difficult to make it exactly 'right', my friends would know less about the caribbean than Americans so I need to show all the names etc. Its not quite right yet

If the Custom size wont work for you just change the code yourself in the first line:

<iframe width="700" height="800"

It did take me a few minutes to learn how it works. I was changing all the code by hand and messing it up then I worked it out that the "Customise and Preview Embedded Map" works more intuativly than I thought.

You can change the lat and Lon in the code itself too.

If you get stuck I will send you some screen shots of what I did.
