Remote Monitor for Chartplotter

Hi,

I have a Raymarine E80 fitted at the nav station, and was looking at the possibility of hooking up a remote monitor to be used at the helm. Of course, Raymarine sell a monitor for this purpose but at a silly price.
Looking for something cheap, 10 to 12 inch screen, 12V DC, robust, and preferably waterproof, (or could be made water proof

Have you considered putting the E80 at the helm, since it's already designed for outdoor use, and running an ethernet cable from a Seatalk HS network switch (which you probably already have, if you have several devices feeding your E-80) to the nav station, where you can use a laptop PC. If you are getting radar, AIS, GPS at the E80, you should be able to also display these at the helm.

I haven't used Raymarine's Raytech software, but according to their website it's fully compatible with the E series.

It looks expensive, but may be cheaper than another display from Raymarine.

We have an E80 at the helm and it's great (but not cheap). I saw one boat where they had an outside mount and could move their E80 from the nav station to the outside under a dodger.

I have used the Raytech software to plan a trip and then transfered that route into our E120. It worked fine but I find I now usually just plan our routes on the E120 at the nav station.

Option 1) - out VGA to any LCD you like,

Option 2) - via RayTech. Cost +/- (500USD + laptop price).

A lovely 17'' LCD costs ca. 150 USD here (EU), probably way cheaper in the US.
So the LCD way seems cheaper even if you need to buy a power source for it.
