Raymarine C80 serial #

The boat we bought in October has an older C80 chartplotter, gps, radar...and while I was able to use the original flash card to upgrade the plotter's software, I need its serial number to use the Voyage on my pc. The removable card from the manual cover is nowhere to be found (yes, I asked the PO) and there's a bar code with a number below, but it's not the 16 digit serial. Nor can I locate it on the installed unit. Raymarine's comment was: you need the serial #, even after I offered the sales documents listing the electronics, etc. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Post this question on Raymarine's support forum, and they'll tell you which menu screen you'll be able to find it in.

Thanks for that; I just signed up. I'm sure they can help; at some point I'd like to upgrade, but with the sending units, plotter and radar working at the moment I'll manage. :-)

Try going to the "Setup" Menu, then from there select System Diagnostics, then Software Services.
That should hopefully bring up a page with the serial number.

Re: Raymarine C80 serial #

We run the same -- so I would assume you are looking for a back up??

We run OpenCPN as a back up and love it.

just a suggestion

Re: Raymarine C80 serial #

It's a "new to us" boat, and I'm trying to figure out the best way to use everything. I have an iPad, but haven't really figured out the best backup.

I thought I'd get the Raymarine planning software in order to plan at home on my pc, load routes onto a CF card which I could then take to the boat and upload to the C80. I don't think you can do that with Open CN, right?

I wasn't planning on taking a laptop aboard, with all the power, cabling, etc...

How do you have yours set up?

Re: Raymarine C80 serial #

Raymarine has an online blog that answers questions. I've found this a great help.

Lee -- as far as I know you can not download but I am as far from a techie as you can get.

We do all our planning on OpenCPN and right now I am planning a 2,500nm sail this summer and using OpenCPN I look at distances, ports, ect and put in approx. waypoints but the actual waypoints go into or chartplotter each morning as things change. We also use OpenCPN to see where we have been --

As for a backup - we have lost our chartplotter twice - once coming out of Tobago heading back to Trinidad, off Cape Canaveral, and once going into Porto Bello, Panama. We simply PANICKED and then went below grabbed the laptop, fired it up along the blue tooth gps and calmed down and sailed nicely into port. I should say all except Cape Canaveral as we had not gotten into a backup for our chartplotter and we learned a valuable lesson on having back up.
We now carry both a laptop and tablet with OpenCPN as backups.

this is a pic of how we use OpenCPN to see where we have been -- this was last summers sail

Re: Raymarine C80 serial #

Thanks for that. We may wind up using our iPad an the backup, esp since we have Navionics with charts, weather wind and radar apps already working. I have a Sky Pro gps that can connect to several devices via Bluetooth so that's covered. Until we add solar to the boat, though, we need to be careful with the iPad sucking juice!

Thanks for the info!

Odd thing; when I followed the steps, it said:

C80 display
ID D579
Ser#. Invalid Serial number (ffffff)

Then it listed a variety of other details. Looks like I'll have to take this to Raymarine. :-(

Re: Raymarine C80 serial #

Hello Leev,

Sorry to bump into this conversation after so many years.

I wanted to ask you if you might remember what was the problem with your serial number.

I have seen my C80 and it shows the same on System Info, but apparently everything is working fine.

Many thanks in advance and kind regards,

Pagli
