Navigation Lights

Can anyone put me on to a good source of phrases to help remember light configuration for recognizing boats by their lights at night or a website with photos of light configurations to test your abilities.

Re: Navigation Lights

I made my own flash cards of light using the rule book. All you need are paper and sharpies. I used word and printed them and laminated them.

Here is a link to mine: http://charlescook.com/Resume/USCGFlashCards.pdf

Re: Navigation Lights

You might want to consider the reference cards from Davis. They have them in roughly 8x10 in size or in a pocket size set.

I got a nice little decal sticker from the USCG Auxiliary that I plastered near my helm. That way all the Nav light info is right in front of me when I need to remember.

Re: Navigation Lights

When i went to coast Guard Officer Candidate School we had all kinds of jingles to remember light configurations. But, it's been 40 years and I can't remember all of them.
Here are a few

Red over green, Sailing machine
Red over red the pilot is dead - (not under command)
Red over white Fishing at night - (fishing or trawling)

Why do I remember those? Who knows? But we were always trying to find simple ways to remember all the rules.
