I am 54.5 foot air draft, and would like to stay inside, if I can. heading south from
Ft Lauderdale tomorrow.
Forecast for Wednesday is nw winds 11-13 mph. Seas will be flattish on the outside close to shore. Stay in 40 to 60 feet of water and avoid the northbound current.

You have a big boat. No problem. I've sailed that stretch in a Compac 16.

I have gone under that bridge with a tad under 55'.

Watch the boat traffic as the no wake is often ignored by many,
Including Miami PD.

I don't encourage taking chances, it's never worth it if something goes wrong, but 56' is the height at the lowest point and at high tide. Low tide can give you an extra 3' or so.

Also the span west of the main draw has more height. Have led a B423 and Whitby 42 under this span at half tide.

What are the heights of these vessels?

No way you can make it. Pain with all the other bridges anyway. Best way thru S Florida on a cat is Stuart direct to Boca Inlet, Boca Inlet to Gov cut or key Biscayne. One bridge at Boca Inlet which is on demand

It's really about the numbers plain and simple. He can make it at low tide at the highest point, but why chance it?
I know people in my sailing club who have done it. I don't encourage it but it's doable.
