If it can do the ENC vector charts, yes. If it only does raster or proprietary vector, then no. They don't seem to exist.

There is a link to the ENC site here on my website

Re: OpenCPN

I am new to this forum and not sure if I'm doing it the right way. I have just started to use OpenCPN and so far have been impressed. Running on Windows XP with Furuno GP32 GPS but there are two problems. One is that the boat symbol always faces north and there is no COG at the bottom of the screen. This means that with the AIS the CPA alarm is located in front of the ship symbol which is behind me!
The other problem is that I cannot upload routes from the PC to the Furuno GP32 GPS.
The previous navigation software did not have these problems so I know it should work.

Re: Inland River Charts in RNC Format

somewhere i have the RNC charts for the Black warrior, tenn tom, and
tennessee river.
i used them in 2006 with a 1997 version of nobeltec before they
even heard of ENC.
they look ok but the registration is terrible.
most of time you find yourself sailing the highway in a different county.
(literally often over a mile out of position).

Hi Dave, I've been trying to install a version for my 2010 MacBook Pro ... can't seem to get to work, or find the right exe file to open. Any hints would be gratefully received. Incidentally, I installed the Windows XP version and it's marvelous!

I'd be a little surprised if Dave is still following this thread.

However, there is now an entire sub-forum devoted to OpenCPN, and Dave is very often there.

Re: OpenCPN

Hi Dave can you help me with this?

I am trying to see what Opencpn can do - I have installed it im My virtual drive (I use XP mode on 64 bit laptop) but it doesn't give me the place names on the chart. So I installed it in my Windows 7 section of the laptop and the program won't open at all. I have only discovered your software when I was in Bermuda (Just did a double Atlantic crossing 11,000nm delivery). I was using Maxsea and was told that your software is better and easier to use. Haven't been able to test it properly yet. Hope you can help.
Yours in sailing
Jef

Re: OpenCPN

Hi all,

have tried to use your .dmg package on my older Apple ( PPC, 10.5 ) but it says architecture not supported... :-(

Will be nice you can make it at least visible before downloading that, especially if someone has a slow and very expensive internetconection like in french Polynesia.

Have no development environment so can't compile it by myself, also found no system requirements.

Is it possible to use it under 10.5 on PowerPC architecture also?
Have someone a binary for me?

Regards,
Joachim

Re: OpenCPN

Hi, not sure if I've got the hang of this Forum lark yet but here goes.
I am running OpenCPN on a Panasonic Toughbook under the Ubuntu Linux operating system. Here I should say that it's one of the best navigation programs I’ve tried and I have looked at many. However at seemingly random intervals the program closes all by its self. There seems to be no reason for this and it happens whether the GPS mouse is connected or not and is not affected by the boat moving or being stationary. None of the other applications on the computer do this. I have loaded the charts from the same disk onto a computer running OpenCPN under Windows 7 and it appears to be OK. Any thoughts as to why this might be happening would be most gratefully received.
Thanks
Martin
