Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP 9.4.21

Using 9.4.21 and O3.1.814 I get a crash. Appears to be a font problem since the entire position characters are truncated in the learning window?

Nit: Window says it is 9.4.18 but it's 9.4.21

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Terry,

You must not have downloaded the latest version. It is suppose to be V9.4.21 which actually corrects the problem that you have.

The problem is the font is too large for the status bar so not all the lat/lon shows up, part of the lon is missing. You will have to reduce the size of the font for the status bar to say Veranda, Regular or bold and 10 seems to work well for me. You have to be able to see the complete lat/ lon in the Cursor: field of the status bar. If you were using V9.4.21 it would have gave you a proper error message.

I downloaded from my site and is is V9.4.21, try again.

If you still have a problem please send the GE2KAp.log.

Downloaded again and got the latest.

Using bold Veranda font doesn't work for me ... had to go to regular. The highlighting of the characters overlaps with bold but not with regular.

Everything OK now. Thanks.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

@Paul,
Risking being accused of hijacking this thread: the recent Bing maps are on numerous locations more recent and have better resolution than Google maps. I use Mobac 1.8 to download the Bing .png tiles but to convert these to BSB/kap I have to ask pretty please someone who has the Global Mapper software.
Any plans/possibility of Bing2kap?

Yachtman, thanks for the feedback.

Zoef, well you got me thinking. What else was going to do with the rest of life anyway. You're not the first to request this so I will look into the Bing maps and see if its feasilble but no promises.

zoef,

I have downloaded Mobac. Could you explain how you use it to download the bing tiles.
Thanks

Zoef, never mind I read the Mobac blog and see that bing was removed in the latest version.

Would you mind sending me a private message, guess what I want.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Zoef,
I found an old version 1.8 of Mobac and was able to use Microsoft maps, and Virtual Earth to create output in Oziexplorer format: PNG and MAP files.

It would take be a long time to create a bing2kap program and like Mobac I would probably invoke the wrath of Microsoft.

But I could do this:
- you use Mobac to create the output in Oziexplorer format: a png and map file(it has the coordinates).
- I modify GE2KAP to except as an overlay the png and the map file. With the "Create Kap from Overlay. Do not use Google earth" checked it would then create an kap chart from this input.

The only thing it wouldn't do is allow you overlay an existing chart.

Would that satisfy you?

@Paul,

Thank you, that would definitely meet my needs. I'm looking forward to the beta-testing.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Zoef,

Good I have modified GE2KAP to accept a a MAP file created by Mobac or OziExplorer. I sent you my email address in a private message. Send me yours and I'll send you the new version to test.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

In your original post, you said you use Mobac to create pngs from bing. I don't see bing as one of the map sources in Mobac 1.8. Did you mean Microsoft Maps or Microsoft Virtual Earth?

I tried to send the new version but your ISP rejected it saying it was too large. So I have uploaded the new version to my website.
Download it from:
www.gdayii.ca/Downloads

and then..
Unzip to some directory like: C:\GE2KAP\V9.4.22
the unzip password is: phiggins
Then run Mobac and select Oziexplorer as the output format. It should create in the output directory a png and a map file.
Start Ge2KAP then enter the location\name of the chart in the first field eg: c:\Charts\mybing.kap
In the 2nd field enter (or select it with <<) the png file that you created.
Check "Create Kap from overlay. Do not use Google Earth"
Click "Create Chart".
It should create the chart. If not send me the Ge2KAP.log in the same directory as where you installed GE2KAP.
Paul
PS:
I figured out a way to overlay an existing chart on to the bing chart. If you are interested let me know.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Hi Paul,

My Norton AntiVirus software has suddenly identified GE2KAPFUNCS.dll as a Suspicious.Cloud threat. I have been using your wonderful program for some time, and this has suddenly popped out of the blue. My current version of GE2Kap is 9.2.12, downloaded fairly recently.

I am presuming this is a wrong identification by Norton, but before I restore the dll from quarantine, any advice? I have queried Norton, nothing from them.

Thanks for a great program

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Hello

Imgkap works very well with MOBAC, simply generate a kmz file and unzip it.
You can also generate colors dusk and night automatically on kap file either on Linux, Windows or Mac ...
