The Wasi swivel is what I had, the Ultra Flip is what I want to use... Not sure if that one will work with a piece of chain between it and the anchor...

Cookiesntequila,

FYI, if you are planning to go to the Society Is., some of those anchorages are in the 25 m. depth range. You may want to have some seldom used nylon rode back of the chain.

Ann,
Turkey and Croatia have some pretty deep anchorages also. The ability to safely anchor in 30 meters opens up a whole lot of available space in most bays, especially for catamarans what are less subject to roll. That's why I'm going with 120 meters of chain.

I'd sleep well with this set up but what really gets me into deep REM's is my Vesper Watchmate anchor alarm connected to a burglar alarm horn.
I was really wanting to go 120meters, but I don't have the space. The 80 meters of 12mm pilled and had to be knocked down regularly. 100 meters of the 10mm g7 is a bit lighter and therefor takes less space - I'm hoping that the smaller links will also prevent it from piling as much.

I plan to get a good connection system and have another 100 meters of rode ready to attach is necessary. In that depth, adding rode will work just as good as chain - just not as easy!!

Same anchor - slightly bigger boat - I'm getting more comfortable!!

Not this thread, but I would love to hear more about your alarm system.... PM me ?

Thx

Can someone direct me to the information on anchor rode tensile strength needed for a 15k lb boat, a 20k lb boat, and a 25k lb boat, seems like you wouldn't need the max load on an anchor rode.

Some info here:

You will find lots of contradictory tables.

Back to the underwater images!!
I know this is slightly a larger scale than your boat, but here is another image of how you can get the yard to modify your bow for a different anchor..

This is a FPSO vessel (floating production storage offloading) we were supplying this week and we were right up close an personal with them. I noticed the anchor and thought of this thread. Here you go...

And the rest of it if you were curious what one looks like.

About Society Is. and some of those anchorages in the 25 m. depth... Well there are tons of them in 2.5 m. depth too.

Shackles and or added links of chain between the anchor and the main rode chain serves two purposes: 1. Creates connections that can be easily observed and replaced in case there is dissimilar metal corrosion and deterioration. 2. Second is that is better allows the swivel to swivel and not be placed in situations where lateral forces put added strain and tension on the swivel. The opinions on new swivels being a weak link in the ground tackle are primarily because operators ask the swivel to do more than swivel (lateral torque). If you can eliminate that lateral torque, a swivel can swivel and in direct line pulls, quite strong.

Thanks for pointing this out. I think this is the first swivel I've seen that I would trust without some chain or shackles between it and the anchor.

It actually comes with a built in shackle for this purpose.

I really respect Mantus. http://mantusanchors.com/mantus-swivel/

The anchor was very close to our Mantus, but you can see it has set very differently, despite being in a similar substrate.

It has also taken much longer to set than the Mantus and there is a lot more heaping up. Nevertheless, this is one of the better sets I have seen from the Delta in the last 4 months.

Hi Noelex and thank you for great work on a great thread
I'm on a page 60 something after I recently got interested in anchors. So far my impression is that any Deltas you have seen have performed poorly. This one being an exception. Is the bottom generally quite hard under a thin layer of sand there? That I guess would explain the poor results.. Do you reckon Delta would do better in mud?
Pardon me if you discuss the issue somewhere later in the thread. I spent most part of yesterday reading this thread but only got so far..

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

Hi Noelex,

pardon my excitement about your thread but I wanted to ask another Q while waiting for reply to the above
Am I correct that both your Rocna and Mantus are two sizes oversized? Even if it appears Rocna discourages oversizing? If so do you think it is overkill at all and what are your reason for doing so? (maybe you have a monster storm anchor as well, but I can't remember)

Looking at the Rocna sizing chart what would you choose for my boat if you would be to use my boat how you are using yours now? It was about 9000kg empty when new, 43 feet (13 meters)

Best regards,
Erik
PS. on page 122 today after few days reading and watching...
