Need to obtain or fabricate Sea Tiger 555 handle, HELP

I purchased a boat with a well operating Sea Tiger winch but I am missing the operationg handle, part number 6055520. http://slspares.co.uk/pdf/Website%20...y/Seatiger.pdf

I assume it is either impossible or rare to find but should be easy to fabricate from a length of 3/8 X 1-1/4 stainless bar stock.

HOW LONG SHOULD THE HANDLE BE? I am guessing that 3' would be good.

Any advice???

Thank you,

Garth

Mine is only about 24" and believe it to be galvanized steel. The longer I suppose the easier but trade-off is the extra distance your arm has to cover. I'd think 36" would be a little too much.
A piece of flat bar should do fine, with a tab about 2" from the end to keep it in the hole nicely.

I had mine made at 36" and it worked very well. I didn't use galvanized, I just used carbon steel and primed and painted with some rustoleum paint. I saw it a little while ago, and three years later it's still looking snazzy.

We just welded some flat stock onto a tube, ground it out, and painted it. May be crude, but effective.

This place sells Seatiger parts, and whole windlasses: Parts for Seatiger 555 Windlass | Simpson Lawrence Yacht Parts & Spares

I manufactured a handle for my Plath bronze manual windlass using a stainless steel bar and a grinder. Same as my Seatiger. Nothing fancy or difficult...

We have an Ideal Windlass (electric) but were missing the same bar part for hand cranking it. We'd kept our old bronze 3/8" thick chainplates when replacing them and we just used a band saw to notch a 12" short section of one to fit into the slot, frapped a wood handle (leftover section of wood from a project) to it and the whole thing is maybe 18" long. Works great and cost $0.
