Emergency Tiller

Just bought a 1997 28' Catalina Mark II. Love the boat and getting familiar with all it's systems before our trek down to the Keys. I have an emergency tiller but can't figure out how to get the white cap insert from the rudder post. Can anyone shed some light. Many thanks. Click image for larger version

Re: Emergency Tiller

I think you are barking up the wrong tree. It doesn't look like there is anything to attach a tiller to.

Re: Emergency Tiller

Greetings and welcome aboard the CF, Phillih.

To affix the emergency tiller first remove the wheel. PLACE THE WHEEL NUT AND KEYWAY INTO THE TOOL KIT FOR SAFE KEEPING. To access the rudder post remove the deck plate located aft of the binnacle on the cockpit floor. Remove deck plate by raising the lever in the plate, which releases the plate. PLACE THE DECK PLATE IN THE TOOL BOX FOR SAFE KEEPING. Affix the long pole on top of the rudder post and insert the tiller on top.
