2.5 HP Yamaha vs 2.5 HP Suzuki?

Our Suzuki 2.5 was stolen recently and we can get either another Suzuki 2.5 or a Yamaha 2.5 for the same money. The Suzuki is lighter (31 vs 37 lb) though each model seems to have positive and negative aspects.

For example, the Suzuki has the gas cap near the front of the engine, so when you dinghy to the beach with a full tank of gas, you might dump some of it into the dink when tilted. The Yamaha avoids this by moving the gas cap farther aft. Also, the Suzuki cowl is held in place by two rubber straps which lasted about a year before splitting into uselessness.

Moving from a Mercury soft-bottom dinghy to a Highfield RIB might balance the increased weight, but there are many reviews of Yamahas needing carb work almost daily. What's your experience?

Thanks, and fair winds!

I really like the 3.2hp Honda 4 stroke because it's air cooled.

I like both the Suzuki and Yamaha outboards, and have owned Yamaha 2.5, 3 and 8hp units, plus 4hp Suzuki; all 2-strokes.
