Affixing Name to Dinghy

I have a Caribe hyperlon RIB and want to affix a name to it. Is there anyone who does custom names (like available for our boats transom) which will adhere to Hyperlon? Or, is there a recommended paint or other process?

After trying about everything, we used a cheap stencil and magic markers. Begins to fade after a while and we just pull out the marker and all new again.

I've always been opposed to doing this as it advertises to would be thieves that the mothership is vacant as the tender sits at the dinghy docks.
Not a problem so much in some parts of the world but a real concern in others.

I think they are saying they want to give the dink a name, not TT it to a mothership. I could be wrong.

Seen some crazy dink/MS name combos out there.

I used vynal lettering from a sign writing shop. Was very cheap, looks great.
The nature of the hypolon will male some letters crack a bit but that cant realy be noticed.

We used a stencil kit with ink on our hypalon. Not fancy, but still quite readable after 16 summers.

Don't know if it is still available, but we used a stencil and a special paint that Nicro-Fico sells to refurbish their PVC cowl vents. Very flexible, very durable, and available in either red or white. Lasted as long as the hypalon dinghy did!

I never thought of that. But doesn't the lack of a dink on the mother ship mean it may be vacant? Catamarans in particular?

I've heard this opinion expressed many times, but have to wonder about it. I think that most boat robberies are kinda ad hoc, not planned after scrutinizing the dinghy docks. That presupposes a degree of intellectual activity not always present in casual thievery. And, just having the dink ashore does not mean an empty yacht at anchor...

In some countries, (Australia included) having the tender identified as "t/t yacht xyz" helps visiting yachts avoid registration conflicts with the local authorities. Our dinghies are such that if locally owned they would require registration, and we have been pulled up by various water cops for failing to have the numbers displayed. When shown the name on the inside of the transom ("Phoenix, t/t Insatiable II") they've always been happy to let us go on our way. I suppose that our Yank accents help, too!
