Source for shackle screw pins?

Going through our catch-all bin for misc. hardware, I found several bow shackles in bronze and stainless that made it to the bin because we lost the pin. (Captive pins are the way to go.) Thought I'd get pins so we would have usable spares and can't find a source for just the screw pins. Anyone know of a vendor?

This is difficult especially for large pins. Generally, only sold as a set with the shackle. Some pins are available at We$t Marine. A lot of hardware can be found here: Marine Part Depot

Other sources I have used - the scrap & recycle bins at our marina's rigging barn. I have made my own from SS in the shop. I cruise our scrap bins for SS bar stock. A few minutes in the lathe makes a new pin.

Garhauer Marine Hardware -12809233 I like these guys but also no separate pins.

Ha! Do you have any idea how few people can cut threads on a lathe?

Not hard to cut threads on a lathe. We teach 9th graders how to do this as part of a required project.

Shop class? Wow I thought they had all gone down the drain. That is just great. There is hope yet.

Re: Source for shackle screw pins?

Thanks Nicholson58 - Agree that Garhauer is a great source for marine hardware! We'll keep an eye out in the junk bins. I've lost the name of a company in Ohio (Oak Harbour?) that refurbished snap shackles - thought they might be an option for parts if I could find them again. The lathe/thread route is a little more effort than I can muster.

Re: Source for shackle screw pins?

While you lot are learning to use a lathe I just hit the bolt tin and use a bolt as a pin.

You are certainly right on this. Sometimes just find a SS bolt, headed pin, shoulder bolt as starting stock.

Re: Source for shackle screw pins?

In MI I have found Fastenal to be a good a source for SS threaded bolts to replace lost threaded pins. No marine supply sources that I have found.
