Radar Reflector throwing off Radar?

Hey guys, we have a 37' Beneteau Oceanis 370 with a with an 18" Garmin Radar sitting on a mast mount. I have a mast mount radar reflector that came with the boat when we purchased it. My concern is, if I was to mount the reflector on the mast above the radar, would it throw it off? I have no idea...

Thanks,
Alex

Directly above or below the antenna would have no negative effect. The vertical beam angle does not extend 90 degrees above or below the antenna. I have seen boats with masts directly behind the antenna, I have one in fact. Other than a possible reduction in returns directly aft of the vessel, there are no ill effects. The reason for this is the antenna only listens for the return signal after emitting the signal.

Why would you have a concern? Radar reflects along a line of sight path. If it didn't, it wouldn't work. Or at least not be good for anything useful. Any reflections off the reflector are for your protection to make it easier for you to be seen by another radar.
