New Rigging Price ?

had a rigger splice the 3/8" double braid contiuous loop furling line on my 1986 Newport 28 and he reccomended that I consider replacing the rigging. It is original, looks good with no cracks, loose wires or corrosion. 140 genoa. It has been a freshwater boat on the St. John's river all of it's life except for a few trips through the Bahamas and Keys and rarely raced. His turn-key quote is $1,113.00 for all new rigging and the related hardware. It has a split backstay and 3 shrouds per side + the forestay. Seems like a good price to me, what do you guys think?

Thanks!

Re: New rigging price?

Sheeesh, wish mine had cost that. Its double that on this side of the pond.

Good time of year to do it as well, riggers should be quiet at the moment, but leave it until Spring and the whole world wants stuff done instantly.

Price sounds good. Since it's spent most of it's time in Fresh Water, may not be necessary, though. Still, if you are planning on going anywhere, would make for peace of mind.

Re: New rigging price?

i agree. that is short $$ for a lot of peace of mind. most insurance companies wont pay out after a mast comes down unless you can prove quality of the rigging.

if you have the $$, i suggest you get it done.

perhaps suggest paying with hundreds instead of a credit card and ask for a better price.

my boat is currently on the hard and u would not believe how much more eager the yard owner is to work with me after i pulled out all green for the deposit and asked 'how much room for negotiating if we do this all in cash instead of with a credit card?'

Re: New Rigging Price ?

We have a 10 m mast with two tops, four lowers, two fore and two backs. Re-rigging quote in Spain 800 EUR approx 1100 bucks. 6 mm wire.
