Help - Jib Furling Getting Fouled

I purchased a 38' sailboat recently and took her out for a test sail. After the first few times out the jib was giving issues with a line which runs almost parallel to it from the top of the mast to the front of the bow. This line was getting wrapped on the jib while it was being rolled in and out. I removed this line from the bow since it only went to a block at the top of the mast and back to the deck. I assumed it was for hoisting the spinnaker. However, after this another issue appeared. The line attached to the top of the jib furling is now twisting itself around the top of the stay. See the attached pictures. Anyone have any idea how to prevent this from happening and how to undo it without having to go up the mast? This line runs into the mast. Thanks!

Highly unusual to get halyard wrap with a Profurl. It looks like your genny halyard is too loose. Winch it up!! (after you've got the wraps out)

What Vasco said. A bit more information. You want the swivel as high as possible on the foil with as little distance between it and the sheave as possible. You clearly have a very loose halyard...not sure if it got worse with you trying to untangle it. To fix it, you can hopefully take off your jib sheets, and tension the halyard while revolving the sail on the foil to take out the wraps. After you get it fixed, "set and forget" the halyard at the proper tension other than occasionally checking it for stretch. A pair of binoculars can help in getting it set properly. Also, check it for wear at the sheave once each season or more frequently if you sail a lot.

You might also need a pennant from the tack fitting on the furling drum to the tack of the jib to raise the sail (and the upper drum) to get things right.
