Deck hatch advice

Im asking for you to help me ponder my next move while rebuilding a vintage hatch, its a-kin to chess I suppose and perhaps there are no real solutions.

my situation.
As it stands now I have a vbirth hatch that is made of 1.25" x 2" teak and is a simple square shape. It was bedded to the deck using wood screws and screwed upwards from inside the vbirth. There was some type of compound used for coupling but its difficult for me to say what it was. I ask for suggestions to a easy and quick method?

One big detail.
this project requires a complete overhead removal to expose the fasteners. Its all white oak planking and has large wooden beams over the top of this planking. Lots of dowels and Im a liveaboard so tools are limited.

my solutions.

I am thinking to either epoxy the wood to the deck and then apply cytol over the uv exposed sides or...
...
I am also thinking of repeating manufactures style and just be pissed off for a long while.

Our hatch is like yours, I caulked the edges with 3M 5200. You could us epoxy with additives mix to a past instead of caulk.

On the teak wood I use Daily Sea fin sealer
