Custom mainsail furling problem help

Has anyone seen this custom set up before . It's a little clunky but works . I just need it to be less clunky and work better .
It's a hydraulic powered motor onto a chain drive .
A bit of the problem also seems to be getting the wire to pull out the sail at the same speed as it's been fed out and vs verser as its furling back in .
Also there is no main halihard, it has what looks like an internal wire one . So at the minute I can't even get the sail out to do a small repair on it.
??? Help please .
