Re: where to buy plastic tanks

A custom made 8 gal welded plastic tank with 1/2" vent and two 1.5" fittings was about $80 three years ago.

Just an FYI - I just paid $325 for a custom 12 gl that fits into the lower radius of the forward section. Which came with (2) 1-1/2" NPT-F fitting on top w/a down tube. a 3" inspection cover and a 3/4" NPT-F for the vent. A very heavy construction for Raritan. They included an elbow and adaptor for running the hoses from the down (extraction) tube.

Ouch! That has to be a Ronco tank...that's who supplies at least 90% of Raritan's tanks...you've shown just how much Raritan marks up the price!

Check with Barr plastics in Abbotsford, they specialize in plastic marine tank fabrication. If you get down to the Vancouver Boat Show, Barr is usually exhibiting there and you could discuss your project in person.

Interesting, the Barr Plastics site. I saw a lot of massive industrial/farm stuff, not so much "marine specific", but that may not matter so much.

Thanks for the tip.

I figure with the custom shape (half of a half moon) and the materials, 4 fittings, a down tube and putting it all together is well worth it, considering it would take me more then a 8 hour day to cut it out and piece it together and the cost of logistics to get it all together. That's what a business is for, right! To have all that stuff on hand. It only took 6 days to get it.

$325 would only fill my truck tank 3 times. I spend that much just in fuel driving to/from the boat each month, in the spring/summer.

Yipes. I have a bike and live 10 minutes from the basin. A cheese sandwich suffices.

Re: Where to Buy Plastic Tanks

Hey gang-

Just wanted my first post here to be a hearty Thank You!

We needed to replace the holding tank on our 1984 Tartan 28. The original tank is from Kracor, so I called them directly. Their response was "we no longer sell retail- you'll have to call your boat manufacturer"

So I called Tartan and their after-market parts manager has tried without success for two weeks to get any reply from Kracor whatsoever.

So, today, having discovered this thread, I called Ronco. They offer the exact same tank, and were a complete pleasure to deal with. Our tank is being made as we speak and hoping to have it in just over a week.

Thanks everyone and looking forward to cruising here with all of you!
